When I was a teenager, I had a friend named David Alba. I had another slightly older friend named Tommy Doxey. We all lived within a few blocks of each other in the Las Vegas suburbs. We spent a lot of afternoons playing driveway basketball or Nintendo games.

One summer we tried to build a “fort” out of plywood in David’s backyard. It leaned against the side of his stucco house. I don’t remember it being particularly sturdy.
